the separation of spirit from matter was a mystery, and the union of spirit with matter was a mystery also.

"What makes indie such an odd example of a subculture being sold back to the masses is that, in practice, its main selling point is its uncoolness. Its presence in an ad doesn’t imply rebelliousness like alternative-culture tropes were once meant to...It features mannered ingenuousness, an embrace of small moments, narrative randomness, situationally amusing but not hilarious character juxtapositions ... and unexplainable but nonetheless charming character traits,” he wrote. “Quirk takes not mattering very seriously.”

“To insist that underground music be snarly and abrasive is to subscribe to a hidebound cliché, which is ironic since the whole idea of the music is to dispense with hidebound clichés,” he says. “Underground music stands against and apart from mainstream culture in order to offer an antidote to it. In eras past, mainstream culture was blandly, blindly complacent, so underground music was angry and dissatisfied. [...] But now, mainstream culture isn’t complacent, it’s stupid and angry; underground culture reacts by becoming smarter, more serene..."

inquest

I grew up my whole life thinking I was in a narrative autobiography and whenever it rained, it meant a new chapter had begun…

If someone comments on the t-shirt I’m wearing, I can never wear it on a day I think I might see them again.

Whenever I speak to someone over the phone, I always have to be walking somewhere. I’m either walking home from the train station, walking down town, or just pacing back and forth in my room. Walking helps me concentrate on what’s going on in the conversation, otherwise the conversation would be incredibly bland.

I have to make a conscious effort every day to keep my thoughts internal. It’s worse when I’m stressed out. I catch myself muttering sometimes and have to physically bite my tongue. I worry that when I’m old I’ll lose my filter and say all of my thoughts out loud....

I don’t read the side effects of any medicines I take because if I do, I’ll be paranoid that they’ll happen.

When I was kid, I believed inanimate objects had feelings, so I wouldn’t kick stones. One time, I injured myself ‘rescuing’ a flashing traffic horse, after my friends had thrown it into a large puddle.

I really, really hate using blue pens for writing notes in my lectures. If I don’t have a black pen, I feel like my entire day is thrown off and there’s no point in even keeping those notes anymore. I’ve even re-written some blue-ink notes in black just to restore order.

sarcasm and irony

these are not new punctuation marks, they just never really caught on,
in the 60s there were also vague plans for a doubt mark and a love point

not sure how i feel about excessive punctuation. dont think i would ever feel the need to tag a sentence with ['theres a double meaning in this sentence' LOOK FOR IT]... but then i've never used an emoticon either.

wonder what the love point is for... is it like in kindergarten when you say;
'i don't mean to be mean but'.....[something mean].

i want to finish this picture today

i had this idea...(no i did!)
its sketched out in a sketchbook...(very vaguely)
anyway whats an idea. not very interesting. this is

needless to say i think this is pretty great.
basically its looking at blogging / internet content in print format. and what better medium than as a newspaper? restrained, templated design, fast paced, and so un-precious.
i love that the designer has kept the integrity of classic newspaper design elements, but also given it its own identity with some subtle and lovely typographic and space variations.
i also like that content wise its a complete spin on the default online/print relationship.

would you think it awfully rude of me if i asked you to go away

there is a grey area which im not mad about...its the area of people in your life who aren't strangers but aren't friends.

lets just say i had a classic frenemy moment.
i cannot help thinking this person spends her spare hours slashing baby lambs.

anyway.
calm.
